+ A tribute to Michel Jaffrenou

with 3 video installations, from October 8 to 18, 2024

2023 marked the 60th anniversary of video art but also the loss of one of its pioneers, Michel Jaffrennou. Videographer, multimedia artist, director, painter, sculptor, performer, graphic designer, Michel Jaffrennou is an artist who has marked the history of video art, and has also imbued the history of our festival with his magico-electro-poetry.
“I make the video with my colored pencils which are nothing more or less than brush and ink for the Chinese painter, a tool with ten thousand possibilities.”

Michel Jaffrennou is not serious and he perfectly understood the possibilities of video. He takes it like the rest with humor. In his hands, the monitor, this strange image box, becomes an object that he manipulates, balances, transports, superimposes. He plays with the limits of the screen and would like us to believe that it is transparent, like an aquarium, that from reality to its image there is no break, than there is between one monitor and another.

Méliès of video, he invents all kinds of illusions and transgressions.
