Les Instants Vidéo Numériques et poétiques is a non-profit art organisation (association law 1901) based in Marseille which works in the field of video arts both locally and internationally.
Our project Thought & practice of images is following two major headings that overlap, interact and enrich one another, and which links are inseparable and unbreakable: one is artistic and the other is related to cultural & poetical rights.
On the artistic level, our task is to bear witness on the evolution of digital and video art creation, to disseminate and promote them, to support emerging creation and videographies that are not widely distributed, and to support artists’ routes, from local to international.
Our activities follow 4 directions:
– Artistic programming (exhibitions and screenings),
– Art works ambassador and go-between,
– Expertise sharer: mentoring of artists and organisations, co-creation & support of festivals, jury in festival, diploma, conferences, lectures…
– Exchange of knowledges: publications, workshops, symposiums…
The second axis focuses on cultural and poetic rights as fundamental rights. Following Fluxus (an avant-garde artistic movement from which video art emerged), we believe there is an umbilical cord linking art and life. The association works to bring video art out of insularity and to intensify opportunities for encounters among a wide diversity of people in all their plurality (in the fields of the arts, education, social work, etc.).
It also seeks to understand the political, economic, and cultural challenges of the Euro-Mediterranean space and beyond, in order to foster the critical distance necessary for our practice as actors in the world of arts and culture.
The festival is the culmination of this work and the moment of its presentation. For its 38th edition, the festival will feature screenings (more than 160 video art films), exhibitions, and performances, representing at least 50 countries..
Who are the members ?
The activities of the association are made possible thanks to the commitment of the volunteers, whose competencies and sensitivities are multiple: education, arts, culture, social work, health… and who are involved in the daily life of the structure as well as in the artistic project, together with the more permanent team.

To share the artistic responsibility, is to introduce horizontality in the process of fabrication of the festival, as well as in the relations with the artists. Our job is to reveal art works, to open perspectives, to push back the boundaries (even to wipe them out), to make connections, and also to stay open to what we do not know yet, what is beyond us, what overwhelms us. What is all-important is the art works and the artists (…).
