For the first time in Marseilles (founded more that 2600 years ago), several hundreds of video artists, festival directors, producers (for France, Quebec, Japan, Greece, Morocco, Palestine, Egypt, Switzerland, Argentina…) took an appointment in the Friche la Belle de Mai in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of international video arts, from 7th until 11th November 2013 (the exhibition of video installations will continue until 30th).
During one week, Marseilles will be the World Capital of Video Arts.
More than 30 video installations will be presented, pionners’ works (Fred Forest, Bill Viola, Michele Sambin, Catherine Ikam, Marianne Strapatsakis…) will meet younger artists’ works (Mounir Fatmi, Taysir Batniji, Raeda Saadeh, Samar Elbarawy, Kentaro Taki…), incredible national filmographies (from Iran, Island, Argentina, Japan, Morrocco, Croatia, Cuba…), disturbing performances (from Germany, Syria, Italie, Belgium…), lively loving debates and love-thinking…
SUN IS THE NEXT TV !
This is the title of an installation-to-come by Dominik Barbier, created especially for the event, for a space of more than 600 m2, and which reflects a singular and original view of our parti-pris: video art has been invented by the children of Second World war and it is a contemporary art… of mediterranean revolutions and of the Greek tragedy. The entrance to the exhibitions, screenings, performances… are free and open. Sharing with us your eye and ear is already a lot ! Come one, come all ! (The next anniversary will be in 2063)
