Using found footage, archival material, and newly staged scenes shot across Morocco, Taleb constructs an alternate reality where memory, fiction, and history intertwine. The film revisits Tangier of the 1950s — a crossroads of artists, poets, and wanderers — while uncovering the often-overlooked contributions of Moroccan voices that shaped its cultural landscape. Blurring the boundaries between dream and documentary, Tangier Chronicles becomes both an homage and a reclamation, exploring how imagination can rewrite forgotten histories and give new life to the ghosts of a city suspended between worlds.

Abdelaziz Taleb est un artiste marocain aux multiples facettes, producteur, archiviste et commissaire d’exposition, dont le travail explore le cinéma, l’art vidéo et les pratiques médiatiques contemporaines. Il est le fondateur et directeur de l’Arab Media Lab Project et du Digital Marrakech Festival, deux plateformes pionnières dédiées à la promotion de la recherche interdisciplinaire, des échanges artistiques et de la formation en art numérique et cinéma expérimental dans le monde arabe et au-delà. Les films et vidéos de Taleb – souvent décrits comme le prolongement de son corps et de sa psyché – explorent les intersections entre poésie, identité et spiritualité, et s’intéressent aux thèmes de la transformation intérieure, de la purification de l’âme et des complexités des réalités sociales. Ses œuvres, visuellement riches et conceptuellement fortes, ont été projetées et saluées dans de nombreux festivals qualificatifs pour les Oscars, notamment la Berlinale Talents, la Mostra de Venise, le Festival international du film de Rotterdam et le Festival international du cinéma méditerranéen de Montpellier. Parallèlement à sa pratique artistique, Taleb est un chercheur et un producteur culturel actif. À travers le projet Arab Media Lab, il a conçu de nombreux programmes, ateliers et résidences d’artistes qui encouragent une réflexion critique sur la culture numérique, l’éducation aux médias et l’innovation artistique. Sa vision curatoriale remet fréquemment en question les récits dominants et explore la représentation des identités arabes et nord-africaines dans les médias occidentaux, cherchant à créer de nouveaux espaces de dialogue et de représentation interculturels. Conférencier et mentor, Taleb a animé des masterclasses et des conférences dans des universités, des musées et des centres d’art du monde entier. Abdelaziz Taleb is a Moroccan mixed media artist, producer, archival artist, and curator whose work spans the fields of film, video art, and contemporary media practices. He is the founder and director of the Arab Media Lab Project and the Digital Marrakech Festival, two pioneering platforms dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research, artistic exchange, and education in new media art and experimental cinema across the Arab world and beyond. Taleb’s films and video works—often described as extensions of his own body and psyche-explore the intersections between poetry, identity, and spirituality, delving into themes of inner transformation, the purification of the soul, and the layered complexities of social realities. His visually rich and conceptually charged works have been screened and recognized at several Academy Award-qualifying festivals, including the Berlinale Talents, Venice International Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival, and the Festival International du Cinéma Méditerranéen de Montpellier, among others. Beyond his artistic practice, Taleb is an active researcher and cultural producer. Through the Arab Media Lab Project, he has curated numerous programs, workshops, and artist residencies that foster critical engagement with digital culture, media literacy, and artistic innovation. His curatorial vision frequently challenges dominant narratives and investigates the portrayal of Arab and North African identities in Western media, seeking to create new spaces for intercultural dialogue and representation. As a lecturer and mentor, Taleb has delivered master classes and talks at universities, museums, and art centers around the world. He has also served as an advisor for international institutions and festivals, supporting initiatives that promote the circulation and visibility of experimental film and media art from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
