Based on the account of a mother and grandmother about the murder of a travesti, the director weaves this short documentary around the notion of ensueño —that space between memory and imagination— rooted in a childhood recollection. With archival materials from the trans community in Ecuador during the 1990s and found footage, a micro-narrative unfolds around memory, death, and absence. A tentative gesture to escape oblivion and become eternal through cinema.

Mayro Romero (Portoviejo, Équateur, 1995) est cinéaste, artiste visuelle et chercheur trans no binarix. Son travail explore les croisements entre les archives, la mémoire et l’imagination, avec l’apprentissage des enfances trans et maricas, proposant le résultat comme méthodologie poétique et épistémologique dans le cinéma documentaire. En 2025, il a reçu le Prince Claus Seed Award, l’une des reconnaissances internationales les plus pertinentes pour les artistes émergents, consolidant ainsi leur projection dans la scène mondiale. Auparavant, il a été sélectionné pour les programmes et laboratoires de prestige comme Talents Buenos Aires (Argentine, 2022) et le Laboratoire DIP – Documentaire, Intimité et Puesta en Escena (Espagne, 2024), partagé par les cinéastes et penseurs comme Lucrecia Martel, Maite Alberdi et Petra Costa. Mayro Romero (Portoviejo, Ecuador, 1995) is a trans/non-binary filmmaker, visual artist, and researcher. Their work explores the intersections of archives, memory, and imagination—drawing upon the lived experiences of trans and queer childhoods—and proposes the resulting insights as a poetic and epistemological methodology within documentary cinema. In 2025, they received the Prince Claus Seed Award—one of the most significant international accolades for emerging artists—thereby solidifying their presence on the global stage. Previously, they were selected for prestigious programs and labs such as Talents Buenos Aires (Argentina, 2022) and the DIP Laboratory (Documentary, Intimacy, and Staging; Spain, 2024), alongside filmmakers and thinkers like Lucrecia Martel, Maite Alberdi, and Petra Costa. Their films have been selected for international festivals including EDOC (Ecuador), Oaxaca FilmFest (Mexico), BISFF – Beijing International Short Film Festival (China), and the LA Underground Film Forum (USA)—where they received an Honorable Mention in 2019—as well as festivals in Croatia, Spain, Colombia, and Belgium.
