L’Arrière-Pays est une fable autobiographique à la croisée de la science-fiction et du film de mémoire. Le film explore le parcours de deux rêveurs coincés entre passé et présent, entre rêve et réalité. Il combine des extraits d’un journal d’immigration, des textes trouvés et des images suspendues dans un espace sombre et dystopique.
The Arrière-Pays is an autobiographical fable at the cross-section between SCI-FI and Memory Film. The film explores the journey of two dreamers trapped between Past and Present, between Dream and Reality. It combines excerpts from an immigration journal, found text and images suspended in a dystopian dark space.
Federica Foglia est une artiste visuelle et écrivaine transnationale. Titulaire d’une licence en langages multimédias et informatique numérique pour les sciences humaines : histoire de l’art, théâtre et cinéma de l’Université de Naples L’Orientale, d’une maîtrise en cinéma de l’Université York de Toronto, elle est actuellement doctorante en cinéma et arts médiatiques à l’Université York. Elle s’intéresse aux questions d’immigration, de citoyenneté et d’identité, de déplacement, aux femmes de la diaspora, aux temporalités des migrants et à la recherche d’un langage visuel pour explorer ces expériences. Sa pratique s’articule autour du cinéma recyclé, du cinéma amateur et des archives imaginaires. Elle travaille dans l’espace domestique pour remédier aux films found footage. Elle travaille actuellement sur un projet impliquant des techniques écologiques de levage d’émulsion de films orphelins 16 mm provenant de successions privées et d’archives familiales. Ses œuvres ont été exposées et ont remporté des prix dans plusieurs galeries d’art et festivals de cinéma, notamment Images Festival, Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival, Anthology Film Archives, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Alicante MACA, BIDEODROMO, BilbaoArte Foundation, Toronto International Film Festival, Antimatter [Media Art], Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Human Rights Watch Film Festival, Mostra Internazionale del Cinema di Genova, Vancouver International Film Festival, Reykjavík International Film Festival, Visions in the Nunnery – Whitechapel UK, Groupe Intervention Vidéo Montréal, SCAD Savannah International Film Festival, ULTRAcinema Festival Mexico, Muestra de Video Arte Faenza, MIMESIS Documentary Festival, Camerimage. Federica Foglia is a transnational visual artist and writer. She holds a BA in Multimedia Languages and Digital Computing for Humanities: History of Art, Theatre, and Cinema from the University of Naples L’Orientale, an MFA in Film from York University, Toronto and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Cinema and Media Arts at York University. She is interested in issues of immigration, citizenship and identity, displacement, women of the diaspora, migrant temporalities, and finding a visual language to investigate these experiences. Her practice revolves around recycled cinema, amateur filmmaking, imaginary archives. She works within the domestic space to remediate found-footage films. She is currently working on a project that involves eco-friendly emulsion lifting techniques of 16mm orphan films from private estates and family archives. Her works have been exhibited and won awards in several art galleries and film festivals, including Images Festival, Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival, Anthology Film Archives, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Alicante MACA, BIDEODROMO, BilbaoArte Foundation, Toronto International Film Festival, Antimatter [Media Art], Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Human Rights Watch Film Festival, Mostra Internazionale del Cinema di Genova, Vancouver International Film Festival, Reykjavík International Film Festival, Visions in the Nunnery – Whitechapel UK, Groupe Intervention Vidéo Montreal, SCAD Savannah International Film Festival, ULTRAcinema Festival Mexico, Muestra de Video Arte Faenza, MIMESIS Documentary Festival, Camerimage.
