Koma capture la transformation poignante d’une petite ville en pleine gentrification, naviguant dans la délicate valse entre progrès et préservation. À travers un regard d’observation, elle reflète l’évolution de l’identité locale à mesure que le monde physique évolue. Tandis que les bâtiments s’élèvent et que les forêts reculent, de nouveaux quartiers se construisent, tandis que d’autres sont oubliés. Entre béton et murs, des échos de la nature et de la communauté persistent. Cette œuvre est un témoignage visuel de la résilience et de l’adaptation du monde naturel et des liens humains face à des changements inévitables.

Koma captures the poignant transformation of a small town amidst gentrification as it navigates the delicate dance between progress and preservation. Through an observational lens, it reflects on the evolution of local identity as the physical world evolves. As buildings rise and forests recede, new neighbourhoods are made, while others forgotten, amid concrete and walls echoes of nature and community persist. This work is a visual testament to the resilience and adaptation of both the natural world and human connection in the face of inevitable change.

Jessica DiCosta est cinéaste et artiste visuelle basée à Sydney. Diplômée avec mention très bien du COFA (UNSW College of Fine Arts), Jess a été l’une des 30 étudiantes sélectionnées à l’échelle nationale pour exposer au Perth Institute of Contemporary Art pour son film de fin d’études, Apartment Block n°10. En 2019, Jess a reçu une bourse financée par le Festival international du film de Saint-Sébastien pour terminer son master en création cinématographique à l’école de cinéma expérimental Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola de Saint-Sébastien, en Espagne. Depuis son retour en Australie, ses films ont été projetés et exposés à l’échelle nationale et internationale, notamment au SXSW Sydney, au Prix Arte Laguna de Venise, au Festival du film de St Kilda, au Festival du film d’art de Cannes, à la Semaine du film de Venise, au Prix d’art Gosford, au Prix national d’art Girra, au Prix d’art Wyndham, au Prix national d’art Kalgoorlie-Boulder, au Prix du portrait Prospect, à Arts in the Valley et au Prix d’art féminin australien Ravenswood. Ils ont également reçu des distinctions telles que le premier TWT Excellence Award et le Tony White Memorial Art Award. En 2023, Jess a été l’une des 50 réalisatrices internationales sélectionnées pour participer au « Creator’s Lab » de PlayLab Film avec Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Memoria, Oncle Boonmee, celui qui se souvient de ses vies antérieures) au Yucatán, au Mexique. Son film, SEE ME LIVING, a été l’un des 10 sélectionnés par le Lab pour une distribution internationale en 2024. Jess a récemment reçu une bourse pour poursuivre sa pratique artistique en résidence à la Cité Internationale des Arts à Paris en 2025. Elle est également actuellement en développement pour son premier long métrage, When Mama was Moth.

Jessica DiCosta is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Sydney. Having graduated with a First-Class Honours degree from COFA (UNSW College of Fine Arts) Jess was 1 of 30 students selected nation wide to exhibit at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art for her graduating film, « Apartment Block No 10 » In 2019, Jess received a scholarship funded by the San Sebastián International Film Festival to complete her masters in Film Creation at experimental film school, Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola in San Sebastián, Spain. Since returning to Australia, her films have been screened and exhibited both nationally and internationally at the likes of SXSW Sydney, Venice’s Arte Laguna Prize, St Kilda Film Festival, Cannes Art Film Festival, Venice Film Week, Gosford Art Prize, Girra National Art Prize, Wyndham Art Prize, Kalgoorlie-Boulder National Art Prize, Prospect Portrait Prize, Arts in the Valley, Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize as well as garnering accolades such as the inaugural TWT Excellence Award and the Tony White Memorial Art Award. In 2023, Jess was 1 of 50 international directors selected to participate in PlayLab Film’s ‘Creator’s Lab’ with Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Memoria, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives) in Yucatán, Mexico. Her film, SEE ME LIVING, was 1 of 10 selected from the Lab for International distribution in 2024. Jess was recently awarded a Fellowship grant to continue her art practice in residence at the Cité Internationale Des Arts in Paris in 2025. She is also currently in development for her debut feature film, « When Mama was Moth ».
