Tenir la ligne

Le film Tenir la ligne s’empare du médium du sport afin de questionner l’injonction à la performance. L’actrice évolue au sein d’une chorégraphie mêlant course et danse tout en déclamant un monologue construit à partir d’ateliers d’écritures menés par l’artiste en collaboration avec des jeunes de la ville de Roubaix. Les mots déclamés font écho aux vécus des adolescent.es et à leur rapport aux notions d’efficience et de performance envisagées comme ambivalentes, parfois obsessionnelles.

The film « Hold the track » uses the medium of sport to question the injunction to perform. The actress evolves within a choreography combining running and dance, while declaiming a monologue constructed from writing workshops conducted by the artist in collaboration with young people from the city of Roubaix. The words spoken echo the teenagers’ experiences and their relationship with notions of efficiency and performance, which are seen as ambivalent and sometimes obsessive.

Ainsi, les techniques cinématographiques et chorégraphiques se présentent à elle comme une porte d’entrée vers une nouvelle écriture et la création d’histoires hybrides. Les images historiques et populaires, dont elle s’inspire souvent, soutiennent la construction d’allégories contemporaines qui bousculent la position du public et notre rapport au progrès et aux stratégies de pouvoir.

Ludivine Large-Bessette : Working at the crossroads of video, photography and contemporary dance, she uses the body as an object and a motif to express our desires for power as well as our limitations (artificial, physical and normative). In this way, she employs cinema and choreographic techniques as a gateway to a new form of writing and the creation of hybrid stories. Historical and popular images from which she often draws her inspiration support the construction of contemporary allegories that unsettle the viewer and question our relationship to progress and power.
