What construction highlights, whether it is just a renovation of ruins, or a reconstruction of a demolished part, is the existential response to the continuous demolition in the case of Palestine. It is a confirmation that human existence is associated to creation and innovation, and that the resistance is not only in enduring the demolition. It is the ability to reconstruct not only buildings, but also the memory, the identity and the hope. This piece is a call for the audience to reflect upon the continuous cycle of demolition and construction, and on how the human determination – if well rooted in land and History – will always finds a way to extract its existence from the nothingness. It is a confirmation that life would continue and that home or the spiritual and existential aspects of it cannot be demolished decisively.

Ramzi Maqdisi est un cinéaste et acteur palestinien. Utilisant une narration subtile, subversive et visuelle, son travail cherche à transmettre une expérience de la nature écrasante de l’occupation en zoomant sur les minuscules détails que nous partageons tous, en tant qu’humains. Ramzi a commencé sa carrière professionnelle en tant qu’acteur au théâtre national palestinien et est co-directeur artistique de Qods Art Films; un collectif d’artistes d’Europe et du Moyen-Orient couvrant plusieurs disciplines, y compris le cinéma, le théâtre et l’installation. Son travail de théâtre a été produit par le Théâtre national palestinien et les projets de films barbicans et récents ont eu des sorties de festivals mondiaux ainsi que diffusés sur BBC Arabic et Al Jazeera. Ramzi Maqdisi is a Palestinian filmmaker and actor. Using subtle, subversive and visual storytelling, his work seeks to convey an experience of the overwhelming nature of occupation through zooming in on the tiny details that we all, as humans, share. Ramzi began his professional career as an actor in the Palestinian National Theatre and is co-artistic director of Quds Art Films; a collective of artists from Europe and the Middle East covering multiple disciplines including film, theatre and installation. His theatre work has been produced by the Palestinian National Theatre and the Barbican and recent film projects have had global festival releases as well as airing on BBC Arabic and Al Jazeera. Ramzi’s documentary credits include: Behind the Wall, Under the Sky, Naked Dreams and Defying my Disability. Fiction credits include: Mirage, Year of Losses, The Red Beach (16mm) and Solomon’s Stone.
