Feux d’artifice

À travers la documentation d’activisme politique et de moments privés du réalisateur, « Feux d’artifice » nous invite à explorer les limites de l’empathie en posant une question simple : Peut-on partager la tragédie de l’autre ?

Since February 2022, 100.000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Berlin. Late December 2022 – streets across the city recoil and reverberate to the sound of fireworks celebrating the arrival of the New Year. However, fireworks are also one of the worst triggers of trauma for people fleeing war. When a cracker explodes, it returns them to the conflict-zone. Through the documentation of political activism and private moments, the director invites us to explore the limits of empathy by asking a simple question:
« Can one share another’s tragedy? »

Yann les Jours est né à Lyon (France) et vit aujourd’hui à Berlin (Allemagne). Il a étudié l’histoire de l’art et la littérature anglaise à l’Université Lyon II Lumière, puis a participé à la Documentary Summer School du Festival de Locarno et à la Ji.hlava IDFF Academy.
Son travail documentaire – qui s’étend du cinéma aux clips musicaux en passant par la performance – est souvent décrit comme poétique, abstrait et expérimental. Son premier court métrage, Répétitions, a été présenté en première mondiale en 2022 aux Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen.Entre 2023 et 2024, Yann a réalisé trois courts métrages documentaires expérimentaux, chacun structuré autour d’une forme poétique distincte :
Mars (haïku), première à Short Waves Poznań dans la compétition RAW (2023) ;
kindergarten (villanelle), première au 20minmax Ingolstadt ISFF (2023).
Les deux films ont été sélectionnés au festival L’Alternativa au CCCB de Barcelone en 2024, où kindergarten a remporté le Prix du meilleur court métrage international.
Sonnet (sonnet), première au ShorTS IFF de Trieste, Italie (juin 2025) et remporte les Prix pour la meilleure réalisation et le meilleur design sonore au Indy Film Library Experimental Showcase 2025, Amsterdam.
L’année 2025 a également marqué les premières de Feux d’artifice (Les Instants Vidéo, Marseille), Le hérisson (Riga IFF) et O meu nome é Renata (Côté Court, Pantin).

Yann les Jours was born in Lyon, France, and lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
He studied Art History and English Literature at Lyon II Lumière University and later attended the Documentary Summer School at the Locarno Film Festival and the Ji.hlava IDFF Academy.
His documentary work—spanning film, music videos, and performance—is often described as poetic, abstract, and experimental.
His debut short film, Repetitions, had its world premiere in 2022 at the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen. In 2023–24, Yann created three short experimental documentaries, each structured around a distinct poetic form:
Mars (a haiku), premiered at Short Waves Poznań in the RAW Competition (2023).
kindergarten (a villanelle), premiered at 20minmax Ingolstadt ISFF (2023).
Both films were later selected for L’Alternativa Film Festival at CCCB Barcelona in 2024, where kindergarten won the award for Best International Short Film.
Sonnet (a sonnet), premiered at ShorTS IFF in Trieste, Italy (June 2025) and won the awards for Best Director and Best Sound Design at the Indy Film Library Experimental Showcase 2025, Amsterdam, NL.
2025 also saw the premieres of Fireworks (Les Instants Vidéo, Marseille), The Hedgehog (Riga IFF), My name is Renata, she says (Côté Court, Pantin), and Happiness (FLIGHT, Genoa).
