Big Mother

La perception étendue d’un drone grâce à l’imagerie thermique protège un faon d’une mort imminente. Chaque printemps, d’innombrables faons meurent cruellement à cause de l’agriculture intensive. En effet, durant les premières semaines de leur vie, ils s’accroupissent instinctivement face au danger au lieu de fuir. Cachés dans l’herbe, les animaux sont invisibles. Des équipes de sauveteurs de faons s’installent dans toute l’Allemagne pour prévenir la catastrophe. La nuit, ils ratissent les prairies à l’aide de drones équipés de caméras thermiques afin de localiser les animaux sauvages et de les ramener en toute sécurité en bordure du champ jusqu’à ce que le danger soit passé. Big Mother examine la relation entre l’homme et son environnement et comment la technologie peut rapprocher les différentes espèces. L’œuvre s’intéresse au potentiel positif d’un tel jumelage et se consacre à l’élargissement de la perception grâce à la technologie. Images : Rhein-Main-Drohne. Rettungshundstaffel Barnim

A drone’s extended perception through thermal imaging protects a fawn from threatening death. Every spring, countless fawns die a cruel mowing death due to intensive agriculture. The reason for this is that in the first few weeks of life they instinctively crouch when faced with danger instead of fleeing. Hidden in the grass, the animals are invisible. Teams of fawn rescuers establish themselves throughout Germany with the aim of preventing the disaster. At night, they comb the meadows using drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras to find the wild animals and bring them to the safe edge of the field until the danger is over. Big Mother examines the relationship between humans and their environment and how technology can bridge different species.
