For its 5th Edition, the festival will take place in the central Palestinian cities of Jerusalem, Gaza, Bethlehem and Ramallah<\/strong>\u00a0: exhibition of video art installations, performances , film screenings by noted local and international artists will be presented in multiple venues and connected through organized tours of cityscapes in the four localities. This edition is brought together through the efforts and generous contributions of A. M. Qattan Foundation, Goethe-Institut Ramallah, Les Instants Vid\u00e9o Num\u00e9riques et Po\u00e9tiques, Palestinian Art Court -al Hoash, Dar al-Kalima University College of Arts and Culture, Eltiqa Group, Shababek for Contemporary Art, Khalil Sakakini Cultural Centre, Ramallah Municipality, RIWAQ and Birzeit University Museum. This year\u2019s programme encourages festival participants to experience artworks in an urban context and thereby also explore the city through video art and performance. Rich and diverse, the programme engages the public in a variety of events:<\/p>\n

Ramallah<\/h3>\n

Lurking Green\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is a video work by Ramzi Maqdisi\u00a0that explores the disruptive appearance in Palestine of Ring-Necked Parakeets. Illegally released into the country decades ago, they adapted quickly to their new environment and have bred in large numbers, competing aggressively with local Hoopoes and Woodpeckers for nesting sites. The hidden scene of the parakeets is brought into conversation with the current geopolitical situation in Palestine. Curated by Yazid Anani and presented by the A. M. Qattan Foundation (AMQF)<\/strong><\/a> \"\" \u00a0 Desires into Fossils:\u00a0Disrupting Monuments (with video by Jumana Emil Abboud, Maxime Hourani, Maha Maamoun, Jasmina Metwaly, Deimantas Narkevicius, Firas Shehadeh )<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0examines the theme of monuments in Palestine. Examining how monuments are experienced, shape collective consciousness and entice narratives,\u00a0Desires into Fossils\u00a0opens up into a broader exploration of notions of death, the politics of museumification and the congealing of identity. Presented by the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Centre<\/strong> <\/a>and curated by Lara Khaldi and Reem Shilleh. \"\" \u00a0 GossipTV<\/em><\/strong>, a performance by artist Blake Shaw presented in collaboration with AMQF<\/strong> and Ramallah Municipality<\/strong><\/a> is an exploration through video art and visual poetics of the Palestinian struggle, treating central themes of return to the homeland and resistance to the Israeli occupation, including the politics of boycotting the occupation. \"\"<\/p>\n

Birzeit<\/h3>\n

All Power to The Poetic Imagination!<\/strong> <\/em>is a collection\u00a0of three videos\u00a0presented by Les Instants Vid\u00e9o Num\u00e9riques et Po\u00e9tiques<\/strong> and exhibited at the Birzeit University Museum<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0curators: Na\u00efk M’Sili and Marc Mercier. Over-information, the \u00a0speed at which information is disseminated, the proliferation of digital networks which place an enormous strain on our eyes and ears, ironically make us, human beings, more and more ignorant of the reality of the world, turn us into amnesiacs, unable to see a better future. The only alternative is to free our poetic imagination.<\/p>\n

Jerusalem<\/h3>\n

The interactive performance\u00a0Drift<\/em><\/strong>, created by game designer Sebastian Quack, is presented by the Goethe-Institut and the Palestinian Art Court (Al Hoash)<\/strong><\/a>. Wearing earphones, participants in\u00a0Drift explore a city en ensemble without the help of maps or guides, their only collective compass a shared soundtrack. The work prods them to experience their surroundings in a playful and adventurous way, discovering paths and spaces otherwise overlooked and neglected. Drift will take place on June 12th and 13th in Jerusalem and on June 14th in Ramallah.<\/p>\n

Gaza<\/h3>\n

Curated by Shareef Sarhan and Raed Issa and jointly presented by Eltiqa Group<\/strong> <\/a>and Shababeek for Contemporary Art<\/strong><\/a>, the exhibition\u00a0Life in Gaza\u00a0in 90 Seconds<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0addresses the fraught contradictions of everyday life in the Gaza Strip. Comprising a collection of 90 second videos \u00a0(by Mohamed Abusal, Khalid M. Eisa, Nabil Abu Ghuneimah, Hazem Harb, Mohamed Harb, Raed Issa, Mohamed Al-Kronz, Basel El Maqousi, May Murad, Majdal Natil, Soheil Salem, Shareef Sarhan, Majed Shalla, Ibraheem Uweilli) the exhibition treats the gruelling living conditions of Palestinians in Gaza and their daily struggles to fashion liveable lives amidst their predicament. \"\"<\/p>\n

Bethlehem<\/h3>\n

Dar al-Kalima University College of Arts and Culture<\/strong><\/a> in Bethlehem presents\u00a0By Chance<\/em><\/strong>, a series \u00a0of video art and experimental\u00a0films produced by the\u00a0students (Jastaniya retour et Noreen Q\u1ea1\u2018wd, Marc A, des les, souris Abdul, priorit\u00e9s awwad, rana Abu,. Sauvageons, Alaa Atwan, bouffons Othman, Ibrahim Anton Handal). Through film and multimedia a wide variety of works offer visual and electronic meditations provoked by the concept of chance. \"\"<\/p>\n

Film program in Ramallah, Jerusalem and Gaza<\/h3>\n

Recollection<\/em><\/strong> (2015)\u00a0by \u00a0Kamal Aljafari, Daga\u2019a<\/em> <\/strong>(2015)\u00a0by Shadi Habiballah. RIWAQ<\/strong><\/a> will organize screenings of a selection of the program films in the villages in which the organization has worked.<\/p>\n

The \/si:n\/ festival of\u00a0video art and performance was established in 2009<\/strong> by a group of culture and art institutions. The festival aims to create spaces for the exhibition of and research into video art and performance, and to encourage new forms of seeing and interaction. Building on \u00a0cooperation among its partner institutions, it is intended to introduce new formulas of collective cultural and artistic work.
