Le film alterne fiction et documents d&rsquo;archives, entrela\u00e7ant chronologies, r\u00e9cits et espaces. S&rsquo;ouvrant sur une s\u00e9rie de photographies des logements sociaux de Singapour prises par Teo, \u00ab&nbsp;Espaces as traces&nbsp;\u00bb offre un aper\u00e7u du paysage culturel des espaces communs singapouriens. Divers \u00e9v\u00e9nements se d\u00e9roulent dans ces espaces communs, appel\u00e9s \u00ab&nbsp;spaces vides&nbsp;\u00bb. Le film propose ensuite une science-fiction imaginaire de Bai Suzhen, une divinit\u00e9 serpent qui descend dans le monde des mortels mille ans plus tard. On y d\u00e9couvre Yang, la gardienne de la maison de Bai, et la perspective d\u00e9sincarn\u00e9e d&rsquo;un syst\u00e8me de vid\u00e9osurveillance dans l&rsquo;espace de la maison de Bai. Yang nous guide \u00e0 travers les structures architecturales du HDB, nous pr\u00e9sentant les archives de la communaut\u00e9 fictive, conserv\u00e9es sans interruption depuis mille ans. Avec Bai, Yang et des m\u00e9diums spirituels document\u00e9s, la fiction et la documentation rituelle archivistique permettent \u00e0 l&rsquo;espace du HDB de m\u00e9diter la relation complexe entre l&rsquo;intelligence artificielle et le Livre des Mutations tao\u00efste, ou Yi King. Ici, les symboles divinatoires hexagrammes du Yi King correspondent aux \u00e9l\u00e9ments architecturaux du b\u00e2timent du HDB. Dans \u00ab&nbsp;Espaces comme traces&nbsp;\u00bb, Teo s&rsquo;int\u00e9resse aux intersections entre m\u00e9dias num\u00e9riques et \u00eatres spirituels, utilisant le cin\u00e9ma comme m\u00e9diation de nos relations et de nos interactions avec le cyberespace, l&rsquo;espace physique et les mondes spirituels. Le langage spirituel devient langage num\u00e9rique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Existing between the domains of architectural, technological and spiritual mediums, \u2018spaces as traces\u2019 features found footage, Teo\u2019s body of archival material concerns with Singapore\u2019s architecture and Taoist religious rituals, as well as three-dimensional rendered animation of deities in an imagined science fiction of Chinese mythology. The film toggles through fiction and archival documentation, interweaving timelines, narratives, and spaces. Opening with a series of photographs documented by Teo of Singapore\u2019s government housing. \u2018spaces as traces\u2019 provides a glimpse into the cultural landscape of Singaporean communal spaces. Various events are held in such communal areas of these buildings &#8211; where spaces are called void decks. The film then offers an imaginative science fiction of Bai Suzhen, a snake deity that descends to the mortal realm a thousand years into the future. Yang is introduced, the carer of Bai\u2019s household and the disembodied perspective of a CCTV system in the space of Bai\u2019s home. Yang leads us through the architectural structures of the HDB, introducing the archives of the fictional community, continually kept for a thousand years. With Bai, Yang and documented spirit mediums, fiction and archival ritual documentation allows the space of the HDB to mediate the entangled relationship between artificial intelligence and the Taoist Book of Changes, or I Ching. Here, the hexagram divination symbols of the I Ching correspond to architectural elements of the HDB building. In \u2018spaces as traces\u2019, Teo attends to the intersections of digital media and spiritual beings &#8211; with filmmaking as mediation for our relationships to and the interactions of cyberspace, meatspace and spiritual realms. It is a performance of how such spiritual realms and thresholded spaces might interact. She creates narrative and abstract works that feature historic documents, archival footages and personal recordings. Being brought up in a religious household and a young multi-racial country, where traditions from her ancestral homeland are slowly forgotten as they developed into a western hegemony. The contrast of the digital world and mythology stories, provides a potential space to create homeland for people traversing the complex channels of diaspora. Shi Yun is reclaiming her heritage and culture through documentations and conversations with a hybrid language that everyone is familiar with. Her work contends with questions of identity, heritage, culture, and diaspora in relation to Singapore\u2019s rapid growth and through family history and local mythology. The role of her work acts as an archivist attempting to show stories of the unknown.
