Exposed by the Mask <\/em>fusionne des images de masques de diff\u00e9rentes cultures et \u00e9poques avec les visages de personnes r\u00e9elles de sexe, d’\u00e2ge et d’appartenance ethnique diff\u00e9rents. Les masques de culte, de danse et de th\u00e9\u00e2tre \u00e9taient visiblement utilis\u00e9s et sont aujourd’hui conserv\u00e9s dans les mus\u00e9es en tant qu’ambassadeurs silencieux de leur culture. Un masque n’est anim\u00e9 que par celui qui le porte. Il est \u00e0 la fois une surface et une image. Il se compose d’un ext\u00e9rieur et d’un int\u00e9rieur, qui sont reli\u00e9s par les ouvertures du masque. L’ambivalence du visage et du masque devient visible gr\u00e2ce aux yeux vivants qui regardent \u00e0 travers les orbites du masque. Sans porteur, un masque est priv\u00e9 de toute signification, il devient silencieux et se transforme en un objet \u00e0 la surface morte. The video installation \u00ab\u00a0Exposed by the Mask\u00a0\u00bb fuses images of masks from different cultures and periods with faces of real people of different gender, age and ethnicity. A mask is only brought to life by a wearer. It is both a surface and an image. It consists of outside and inside, which are connected through the openings of the mask. The ambivalence of face and mask becomes visible through the living eyes peering through the eye sockets of the mask. A mask is deprived of any meaning without a wearer, it falls silent and mutates into an object with a dead surface. The video installation \u00bbExposed by the Mask\u00ab traces the blurring of the boundaries between face and mask. The face fused with the mask changes slowly but steadily. The surface of the mask becomes permeable and acquires the gaze of a living subject, inviting an exchange of glances. Who is mask, who is human?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her artistic work, Angelika Haak<\/strong> explores the construction and deconstruction of identities. The focus is on the human being, his ideas of normative ideals, action structures and ways of thinking. An essential feature of her work is the detachment of subjects and objects from their spatial and social context. The work of Angelika Haak receives its fundamental intensity through symmetry and formal rigor. The vertical or time-based repetition of actions, images and forms compels a focus and concentration on the essentials in their content and formal reduction. The aesthetics and expression of her video art point beyond its original media of video, painting and sculpture; it manifests itself rather as moving painting or video sculpture.
