This deeply moving thread has given rise to a body of work that is more enveloping than trying, because there is a gentleness in feeling close to someone who is absent, there is a gentleness in soothing a raw, universal reality by sublimating it in a work of art. Using digital tools, I work in layers of images and sound to capture the poetic intertwining that we create within ourselves when we are immersed in our innermost being, attached to the sensations and visions we have of someone we miss. The theme is treated with variation: each experience of the disappearance of another is unique, symbolic and always fragmentary. Images loop and transform, like our memories in moments of fusion with the being who obsesses our thoughts, a state in which it is also ourselves who disappear, a state through which, gradually, we ourselves evolve. It’s a journey of reminiscence, escape, lack, awareness and new perceptions to which I invite you, an in-between space, between the conscious and the unconscious, where everyone can find themselves beyond culture, in the hidden world of the senses.

Website

Instagram

Mathieu Samaille a été formé en littérature, en arts dramatiques et en arts numériques.
