Marginal Understandings

Une exploration poétique de la relation américaine à l’espace, au sol et à la propriété. Alors que le drame de l’invasion et de l’occupation du continent américain par les Européens a été justifié comme étant le « destin » des Blancs, il y a toujours eu d’autres façons de vivre sur la terre, pratiquées par des gens qui ont été repoussés à la marge économique.

A poetic exploration of the American relationship to space, the soil, and ownership. While the drama of the European invasion and occupation of the American continent was justified as being the “destiny” of white people, there have always been alternative ways of living on the land, practiced by people who have been pushed to the economic margins.

David Finkelstein a reçu une bourse Guggenheim en 2022. Ses vidéos on été présentées dans de nombreux festivals autour du monde et ont gagnées des prix à 27 d’entre eux. En 2013, il a été l’un des artistes invités au festival Traverse Vidéo à Toulouse en France. Son premier long métrage à été présenté au New Filmmakers à New York. Ses films ont été exclusivement projetés à Bilbao, New York, Chicago, Portland, Austin, Caroline du Nord, Minnesota, Los Angeles, Londres, Nouvelle Orleans, Philadelphia, et San Francisco. Ses travaux ont été financés par le Fund for Creative Communities, The Field, Movement Research, Meet the Composer, The Brooklyn Arts Exchange, BACA, et d’autres sources.

David Finkelstein received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2022. His videos have been presented at numerous festivals around the world and won awards at 27 of them. In 2013, he was one of the invited artists at the Traverse Video festival in Toulouse, France. His first feature film was presented at New Filmmakers in New York. His films have been exclusively screened in Bilbao, New York, Chicago, Portland, Austin, North Carolina, Minnesota, Los Angeles, London, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. His work has been supported by the Fund for Creative Communities, The Field, Movement Research, Meet the Composer, The Brooklyn Arts Exchange, BACA, and other sources.
