Elle s’inspire des motifs géométriques de l’art islamique ancien. L’artiste propose une réinterprétation de ces motifs en les animant par ordinateur. Les valeurs spirituelles de la tradition viennent ainsi nourrir le présent. Note de contenu : Allahu Akbar is based on ancient Islamic Allover patterns that are used for various artistic ornamentation in Arab culture. In Islam it is forbidden to have depiction's of God or the Prophet. Complex geometrical patterns are used to praise the perfection of God in nature. My Father came to visit me from the Middle East and brought me a book of these hand drawn Islamic patterns. These beautiful and intricate designs were on this brown newsprint, it looked like a book a craft-person would use, almost like a blueprint. I took these images, scanned them, cleaned them up and started animating them. I began to spin and move these Allover patterns in post-editing motion tools. New images emerged and created an entirely different way of viewing these traditionally static designs. Allahu Akbar attempts to come closer to that ultimate beauty and mystery which is God. Son corps se meut dans une démarche tactile, il interprète son écriture comme une chorégraphie. While seeing him at home or when he displaces in the urban space, one asks the questions of identity on his personal universe and on his way to react in relation to the infrastructure of the city. Note de contenu : A Serbian medieval mourning song and a communist revolutionary song are set to media images used as Serbian propaganda during the war in former Yugoslavia in 1991. Documentary material (silent VHS) filmed by unknown authors during the war in ex-Yugoslavia. The instrumental musical theme is based on Nikola HERCIGONJA's "Solemn Song" (a revolutionary song celebrating communist Yusgoslavia). The words are those of the popular medieval song "The Death of the Yougovics' Mother", which is sung according to the tradition of the Balkan mourners. It tells of the mourning and death of a noblewoman whose nine sons and husband perished in the battle of the Kosovo field, between Serbs and Turks in 1389. Note de contenu : "Wet Tiles" by Lamya Gargash from United Arab Emirates, is a surprisingly accomplished and expressive student film. It concerns a young woman who is seemingly being prepared for an arranged marriage, but the story, told only obliquely through a series of brief images, is more implied than spelled out. (The girl's passive body is frequently intercut with images of a chicken being skewered and a doll with its head being twisted.) The use of dramatic camera angles, changes of film exposure and camera focus, all serve to express her inner state of agitation.
